@Dalek Two Zero what are your battery connected to? Do you use them for separate devices or run them together?
    • Dalek Two Zero
I use Lucus 12V 5AH and 9AH batteries, depending on where they are going, as the 5AH are smaller square shaped.

A quick midweek update….   As @moviedalek said in his ‘Jonathan’s Pertwee-Baker Era Dalek’ build diary “ there’s no going back” when you cut aluminium, so as this is my first go at Goon antenna boxes I too was a little stressed!   Anyway, I decided to tackle this today, between the rain showers, using the 12mm ply boxes I made over winter. I’m going for long sides/short tops, probably.   So, thinking of the Bryan Adams song - ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’ I made the first cut using my oscillating tool with a metal blade after using a 4mm drill at each end to keep the cut as clean as I could on the lines I had previously measured and drawn. I was surprised how good this tool was!       After that there was lots (and lots) of measuring on the shoulder section, the protective film was very useful in this respect and, although I follow the plans religiously, this also seemed to be the time to judge things by eye too given the two boxes were separate entities (I’m hoping the Mk1 antenna board will be less stressful when I get round to that as it’s a single piece).   The next cuts we’re 28mm deep from the front edge so that the front of the boxes would fit in at the angle required but for the rest of the cut on the bottom I decided to raise the line by 15mm - as the boxes do not have bottoms on this hides the cut a bit more… unless you are lying down and looking up just after being ‘exterminated’        A lot more measuring was carried out on the opposite side to get things equal and then the stressful cutting started again, all the rest of the cuts on both sides were made using a combination of the oscillating tool and my jigsaw with a metal blade before being smoothed off with some 3M green abrasive pads.     Both holes seem to have come out pretty equal and I’ve also left 1” at the back of the holes which I may use to bend round to attach to the rear bolts.   I’m now waiting for all of the 3/16 BSW nuts and bolts to arrive to finish and glue the wooden boxes and finally attach them before painting this section.

I've just read this, now really confused, which do i use? Basic Working Principle Buck Converter: A DC DC buck converter, also known as a step-down converter, is a type of switching regulator that reduces higher input voltage to a lower output voltage using an inductor, switch (typically a transistor), diode, and capacitor. The operation relies on switching the input voltage on and off rapidly, creating a series of pulses. These pulses are then smoothed by the inductor and capacitor to produce a stable output voltage. The efficiency of a buck converter typically ranges from 80% to 95%, depending on the load and design. Linear Voltage Regulator: A linear voltage regulator operates by using a pass element (such as a transistor) to control the amount of voltage that drops across it. The regulator adjusts the pass element to maintain a constant output voltage by dissipating excess energy as heat. Unlike the buck converter, which uses high-frequency switching, a linear regulator operates in a continuous mode and directly reduces the voltage with minimal circuitry. Linear regulators are simpler in design but are less efficient than buck converters, especially when there is a large difference between the input and output voltage. Efficiency Buck Converter: The efficiency of a buck converter is typically higher than that of a linear regulator because it uses switching technology to convert excess voltage into current. The efficiency of a buck converter is determined by factors such as switching losses, inductor losses, and control circuitry. In ideal conditions, a DC-DC power converter can achieve efficiencies of over 90%. However, in real-world applications, efficiencies of 80% to 90% are common. Linear Voltage Regulator: The efficiency of a linear regulator is generally low, especially when the difference between the input and output voltage is large. The efficiency is calculated as the ratio of the output voltage to the input voltage, so for a regulator that steps down from 12V to 5V, the efficiency would be 5V/12V = 41.7%. This inefficiency is due to the fact that the excess voltage is converted into heat. For example, if a linear regulator is stepping down 12V to 5V and drawing 1A of current, it would dissipate 7W of heat (V x I = 7W).
