There are two of us, so occasionally our posts might appear a little schizophrenic. James discovered Doctor Who at the age of three, is now 16 and wants to be a professional model maker.

Mike, his Dad, is very much older, always wanted a Dalek, and is still not sure what he wants to do when he grows up.

Larry took us four years, if we were doing it again we would do most things differently, but we had a lot of fun and learned a lot while making him and now we have even more fun taking him out and about and meeting fellow builders.

  1. Hi John, definitely up for this one - quite a lot of various degrees of autism on both sides of our family and would like to support it however we can.
  2. Hi Terry Sounds fun, we'll be up for it with Larry cheers Mike
  3. Hi Mark Larry will be up for both days again, with James and Mike Burgess as operator and minder. Looking forward to it already.
  4. Hi Steve

I seem to have lost your number from my contacts, hopefully you'll see this.  Will we be able to drop the stuff off at the hall tomorrow (saturday) afternoon like we did last year?

Looking forward to it as always, see you there!

    all the best, Mike

  5. Hi Steve I think that James and Helena will be there as cybermen as well as patrolling as Larry Mike
  6. Thanks Ben, I've sent you a PM Mike
  7. I spoke again to Matt at the Museum yesterday and he says they have wider doors into the Colossus Gallery which they didn't show us when we went down last week to visit. The front and rear doors to the main part of the museum are 5'4" wide, so NSDs could be positioned either by the front desk or the shop, (as above, the internal doors are narrower) or in the Colossus Gallery (see below) We're delighted that you're joining us, Chris, and able to bring the display. With Chris we have 4 Daleks on Saturday, 3 on Sunday (unfortunately someone has had to cancel), some voice mods, a K9 and a couple of cybermen. It's still very much a case of more the merrier, so please let me know if you'd like to join us. Mike
  8. We visited the museum with Larry yesterday, were made most welcome and had a great time. Matt and all the others there were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and we are really looking forward to the event itself. On Easter Saturday we're going to be at one end of the museum with Nick Briggs, while the Star Wars crew occupy the other. We've discussed running workshops etc., but on Saturday at least we anticipate that it will be along the "have a go with a voice mod and talk to people" impromptu variety, we may try to get something more structured going on Sunday depending on how things work out. Under 16s are going to be offered free admission on production of anything resembling a sci-fi themed outfit, so if you know anyone who lives nearby with lots of children to entertain over Easter it could turn out to be a fairly inexpensive day out. Apart from the obvious reason to let the museum take photos for publicity for the event, one reason we took Larry with us was to see if he could get through the doors, which - being in an historic (and Grade II listed) building - are a lot narrower than your average sports hall and public wheelchair entrances. It is possible to get a classic Dalek in at both front and rear entrances and most of the way around in either direction, it's not possible to pass from one end to the other without dismantling. Dismantled, the skirt of our Shawcraft MkIII passed sideways through with no space to spare, which makes the smaller doors the same width as our pretty standard size front door at home. I think it very unlikely that a NSD would get much further than the ticket desk at the entrance or the shop at the rear. With that in mind, we're currently expecting four Daleks for the Saturday, and three for the Sunday. If anyone else would like to join us, either with a Classic-style Dalek, display items (or something else Who related which would add to the jollity), please either post here or drop me a PM.
  9. Hi Mark We'd like to ask Sylvester to sign Larry on saturday, and Sarah Sutton on sunday please.
  10. Hi Mark Saturday: operator Emma Burgess, minder Mike Burgess Sunday: operator Mike Burgess, minder Robin Burgess we'll have to pass on the social unfortunately Mike
  11. I've emailed them to express interest, be happy to coordinate something at Easter with you, Vince
  12. PM sent
  13. Hi Mark, Dalek Larry (Shawcraft MkIII)'s handlers will be happy to bring him for both days.
  14. Glad I wasn't the only one distracted by it. Now wasn't this one from Hire a Dalek?
  15. What exactly is going on with the top inch of this skirt section? Is this a piece of wood added for height, or something else I haven't considered? I know this is not the same prop as blown up before, but I wanted to see what this was all about as I spotted it in the episode. I have included a pic.ture from DWM where it catches the light

Saturday spent fixing first bit of 6mm bendy mdf to my shoulder frame, I had a couple of clamps but a friend lent me about 8 and needed every one. My son in law loaned me his multi tool which cut like a dream, however, he needs it for work so had to give it back so went to Wickes and bought one for £25, a bit cheaper than his top of the range model but it still does a great job. Have fibre glassed my dome plug after waxing the he'll out of it, fingers crossed it will come off ok.

My dalek will have a name, talking to my friend about old films, and we talked about the  Eiger Sanction, and came up with the name Hemlock, so now my half finished skirt, nearly fully sanded dome plug and shoulder frame has a name...Hemlock
