Doctor Who Weekend, Wirral Spaceport, Wirral Uk

I recently did a Spaceport event with some Star Wars buddies and spoke to Emily. Unfortunately it's a little too far to travel from the North East. So I said I'd post it on here.

Please contact Emily directly if you are interested. Thanks.

------------------------------------------

Hello,

My name is Emily Martin and i am currently organising a Doctor Who weekend in Liverpool on 19th and 20th May. We are looking for characters, monsters, aliens etc to attend and entertain the public throughout the day.

The event will run from approximately 9am - 5pm on the Saturday and 10am - 5pm on the Sunday. We can offer approximately £50 over the weekend for travel, expenses, charity - whatever you would like to spend it on!

We would love to have some of your fantastic Dalek's join us at the event - it promises to be great. If anyone is interested or if you know of any other actors/ aliens that would like to join us then please could they get in contact by emailing emily@dontpanicprojects.com

Thank you very much and if there is anything i can help you with then please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Many thanks,

Woodhorn Invasion, Ashington, Northumberland, UK

On 22nd July to celebrate the Woodhorn Invasion Exhibition (http://www.experienc...om/invasion!-1/) and to raise a tonne of money for charity. We're holding an Intergalactic Invasion at Woodhorn near Ashington, Northumberland.

Woodhorn is a huge site with the use of a few of their buildings for various activities.

We are now in our third year holding an event at Woodhorn. In 2010 we had 1200 visitors, in 2011 we had about 900. This is with our local Daleks with our little Invasion, but with so much interest we can't keep showing the same old Daleks year in and year out so we're throwing it out to the region and beyond. This year we're hoping we'll get visitors from far and wide from various costume groups to come along and be a part of what should and has been in the past a FREE fun day for nearly 2000 visitors. Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek and if you know the odd Alien and Predator that would also be great so if you've got something other than a Dalek and you want to show it off this is a great opportunity.

Anyway down to the details. So far we've got a few activities planned for visitors some are the usual events that everyone loves and some are new.

Treasure Hunt - To encourage interest in the museum itself we run a treasure hunt where the visitors need to investigate the historic site and encounter the resident aliens/daleks/troopers/cybermen/vampires to find out the answers to questions on sheets handed out throughout the day. We always love the kids faces when they have been forced by their dads to ask a dalek his favourite football team.

Raffle - Throughout the day we sell raffle tickets for the various donated prizes both scifi and cuddly. Plus Dalek rides for those interested.

Intergalactic Bazarre (Zocolo) - We've got a few dealers attending selling their scifi fantasy merch for all your collecting needs.

Cantina - We will be doing a little theming in the Cafe and offer Aunt Beru's blue milk and Gagh for our Klingon visitors, I'm hoping for grilled Kaled.

How to build a Dalek - Short talk and demo on how to build and be a Dalek.

How to be a stormtrooper - Same for the stormtroopers.

Audience with the .... - Daleks? Stormtroopers? This is always popular. We've had fun with this is the last two years.

SCI QI - In the past we've held quizzes for the kids, but I think this time we should so for an alien team thing. This year I'm planning a Star Wars vs Daleks. To finally sort out who the ultimate scifi knowledge masters. Two teams of stormtroopers vs Daleks/Cybermen in a Scifi showdown. In the same vain as Mock the Week or QI. For fun. I can't imagine who we'd have for a quizmaster.

We've got a while to go and the itinery for the day is slowly coming together. So if anyone has any ideas or activities we'd love to hear from you. We've got indoor and outdoor areas on site and it's a great opportunity to get involved.

The event is on the Woodhorn calendar and will be featured in literature sent out to libraries and regional centres come spring.

We're also expecting newspaper articles before and after the event for advertising and reporting as we've done in the past, and we're grateful to the staff at Woodhorn who let us organise a FREE (except for all the fundraising) and fun day. We've been raising money for an accessible carriage for the on site railway and it's been a struggle due to knock backs from the National Lottery and increasing council fees set upon the voluntary organisation running it. But they've now got the truck on site now and we're helping raise funds for the platform and canopy.

This is our third year running an event at Woodhorn and I'm hoping it'll be the biggest ever.

Food, drinks and changing facilities will be provided throughout the day. Plus you'll get entry to their Invasion exhibition.

So come on all you southerners, bring the family and make a day of it. What's not to love?!

Charity Fundraising Day, Earby, Lancs, Uk

Some of you may remember a sign up topic, back in 2009, for an event at the Yorkshire Museum, in York. I was there on the day and among the daleks attending was STORM, doing the rounds in at the front of the museum.

While this was only a small event, we were all looked after very well by the Yorkshire Museum's curator of astronomy, Martin Lunn. Those of you who were there will no doubt remember Martin's enthusiasm.

Martin has been in contact again regarding a possible charity fundraising event, for his local church. It seems he's been through the mill, over the last couple of years, as he has been fighting kidney cancer.

His email (reproduced below) explains...

Quote

Hi,
I recently moved from York to the small village of Earby on the Lancashire / Yorkshire border to be with my partner, in Nov 2010 I took early retirement from the Yorkshire Museum in York where I was Curator of Astronomy. Some Daleks attended an event there in August 2009. On moving to Earby I became actively involved in the local village church All Saints CE Church. I didn`t realise just how much the church supported so many local activities with such small resources. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and at the moment I am recovering from an operation to have my right kidney removed, so far everything seems to be ok. The support from the church and people in the local community has been amazing.
With everything that has happened to me I thought I would try to organise a charity fund raising day for the church so they can support future activites in Earby. I am hoping to have a space day in August. I will be setting up my mobile planetarium which I take around schools, a friend is bringing along some Martian rovers which are computer controlled so people can operate them, the Keighley Astronomical Society are bringing along a solar telescope and I am going to contact Space Connections in Bradford to find out if they would make their space bus available, and of course no space day could be complete without a Dalek.
There are 2 possible dates in August, they are both Saturday`s, they are August 11th and 25th. I assume that Daleks are very much in demand and that this space day is only aimed at a small village community but it would be great if a Dalek could support this event.
You would recieve a very warm Lancashire/Yorkshire welcome, not too mention lots of home made cakes and biscuits!!

I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards

Martin Lunn MBE FRAS

So the question is, is anyone available to help Martin out and take a dalek along to this event? As you can see, the date is still flexible, so this is the ideal time to post and express a preference, if you think you can make it on one of the days.

South West Model Show

For the last three or four years a number of us have started the dalek year by attending the South West Model Show. In 2012 the event is on the 31st March and 1st April. See www.swmee.co.uk for details.

We are offered entrance to the event, our own hall for exhibiting sci-fi related items, free camping (when other exhibitors are charged!) and the chance to gather and have a 'Guild' BBQ. Camping open Friday and Saturday nights.

The show organizers have a contact at Children In Need, so those of us that are motivated by doing this for charity can buy into this. They hope to attract merchandisers and memorabilia stands to make us right at home. CDS will possibly be running Audience with the Daleks.

The organizers would really like to see this develop so if anyone has any ideas, get in touch.

Nor-Con 2012, Norwich, Uk

NORCON is back again for it's 3rd successful year. The event celebrates all that is Sci-Fi, TV, Film, Fantasy and Comics and we have a cracking turnout. 2011 we had over 2000 visitors on the day.

SUNDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER
Holiday Inn (Norwich North)
Norwich Airport
Norwich

This year we have TERRY MOLLOY with us ( DAVROS ) as well as Brian Muir ( Vader/ Stormtrooper Sculptor ) , Barry Kitson ( DC/Marvel Illustrator) and other guests yet to be confirmed. It's only January you know..... they don't plan that far ahead allegedly, LOL.

It's a light hearted great event that everyone can have a good time at, Traders stalls are there along with Celebrity Guests, Q&A Sessions, the ever popular Audience with The Daleks and of course lots of Daleks.

More details are at:

http://www.nor-con.co.uk	and http://www.norwichscificlub.co.uk

The money we raise will go towards our chosen charities, one of which is The Ronald MacDonald House Charity as we are trying to get a house built where families can stay whilst their kids are receiving long term treatment in hospital.

Please feel free to spread the good word. Last year we handed out over £7000 to good causes, its such a shame that we have now hit upon a snag...

Unfortunately, greed has popped up its ugly head and a rival company has been hastily set up to organise a similar event at the same venue 1 week prior to NORCON with the sole intention of derailing the event. A certain person who was HEAVILY involved in the Holt Dalek Invasion is also one of the people behind this as well.

This is causing us a lot of confusion but NORCON's reputation is holding steadfast.

Say no more......

After our continued success and massive invasion that we managed to muster last year > 9 Daleks + work in progress display and an R2 - the Wings'n'Wheels team have asked us back and have requested even more Daleks!

W'n'W is very similar in format to the Southern Model show at the Hop Farm, so if you like that event you'll love W'n'W. The main difference is that at W'n'W we work the runway which is the main thorough fare - so plenty of interaction with the public.

Once again our pitch is adjacement to the runway and the organisers have given us more room, relocting the Tank club to the otherside of the motor pool! Hopefully Vince and Nicky will be there so we can once again avail ourselves of their large Marquee so we have a covered base to work from. I need to check with the organisers but we may have space for another Marquee or Gazeebo now.

We have also been given the green light to have one of our infamous BBQs!! But, there is also entertainment being laid on by the organisers on the Saturday night at the bar. Alternatively the local town has a Chinese and other restaurants!

Please add your details to this thread if you would like to attend, with or without a Dalek.

If you're bringing any remote controlled Daleks or other kit please let me know frequencies as we will be near the boating lake and we have to ensure no clashes
I've been twice before with Daleks and its a great location for trundling, lots of very smooth tarmac with big open hangers to wander around in.
Hi guys and gals,

The 99th Garrison, and other scifi nuts have a Star Wars Weekender at the Spaceport on the 24th and they were wondering whether any local Daleks would be available to attend on the days to mix it up with the Stormtroopers, Klingons and other less worthy opponents.

Normally I'd have Dalek Bruce for the occasion but as some of you may know, I also do some Star Wars gigs in Stormtrooper gear and I may be giving lifts to the event so there wouldn't be any room for the Dalek in the car.
We raise in the region of £800-£1000 and as a quirky twist, I’d like to have a Dalek on board - as everyone knows that Daleks don’t have hearts!

I’m anxious to hear from someone before Christmas if possible so we can set this up. The Shopping Centre Management are dead keen for me to set this attraction in motion, so everyone benefits.

I see from the website that there is a red Dalek - but depending on where he lives, it may not be practical to travel to Surrey.

Do let me know what I need to do to make a booking. My number is below if you’d like to ring me.

Many thanks

Kind regards
