      DalekDucky

I live in Canada, Quebec and having fun raising funds with my two Dalek as a member of Doctor Who society of Canada

      Dalek Canuck
My First Dalek is Canuck which took me abut 18mts to build at the start of Covid. As I do not have access to a workshop, most of my work is done outside in the summer with limited ability to work indoors.

      Dalek Supreme
My second Dalek build is Dalek Supreme. Having learned from Canuck, he took me about 9mths to build

      Witches Familiar
I'm currently building the "sit in" Dalek for photo ops for our group it is the Dalek from the episode "The Witches Familiar", the one where Clara sits in and almost gets "killed" by the Doctor.
So not much to show yet but hoping to have it done this summer for our Comicon season
Here are pictures of the prop and screen shot

      Happy building

      DalekDucky

      The Witches Familiar Dalek

Well I've started a new build, started a while back actually so this post will be a quick catchup to where I am now.

I've been asked by our local Doctor Who of Canada group to build the Dalek from the The Witches Familiar, the one where Clara sits in and almost gets "killed" by the Doctor.
(OK, it was my idea..... but it was easier say that then admitting the truth to my wife LOL)

SO the basic build of a Dalek was not an issue, it is a dalek after all, just cut in pieces and finish the inside too right,,,, right?
Well pretty much but I am having a few challenges t hat I hope the great Dalek hive will be able to help me with

There is not much reference to go trough, The first picture below is a CGI and the other two are the prop which is my main reference

      Shoulders and Skirt,
Well that is pretty much the same as my other builds the only difference was that I did not close the shoulders

       Shoulders and Dome
Used one of our builders mold for the shoulders in an effort to make the shoulders lighter for the arms from which they will eventually hang.
The Dome and Cawl were cast from my molds. They were not perfect but I'm getting a lot better at this

      Shoulder slates
I decided to build them this time around vs 3D printing them. I was sure I took pictures of the process but it seems they were "exterminated"
In any case, not too hard and in some ways less work but more time consuming.  The advantage is that I was able to custom fit them form the get go and not have to go trough the talking, filler of the 3D printed ones. So give and take on time.
      No significant difference in weight.

With the slates in place, I then used my dremel to cut the shoulders in pieces, (Lord don't let me mess this up)

      Hemi Holes
Primed  the shoulders and drilled holes for eventual Hemi Placement using my trust Jig

      Strengthening the shoulders
As the face of the rear shoulders will need to be framed and strengthen to hold two arms per side, (one at the base of the shoulders for the front shoulder and appendage, and one at the top to hold the neck, yet to be built) I traced and cut 1/2" Plywood leftovers that was fibreglassed at the top and bottom of all shoulder peices.
You can see in the second picture the face that was cut to shape for the shoulders from my Skirt MDF offshoots. I will place a 1/2 board behind that as well but the MDF had a nicer finish than the wood I have available.
The piece of wood will also serve as a good guide to finish the edges.

      This is where I'm at.
Currently still figuring out how to ensure the frame will be strong enough to hold the shoulder with appendage and be east to take apart and assenble when taking on the rode.
At this time I'm thinking of placing a bracket at the top and bottom of the shoulders to help relieve the stress on the face

This would allow me to use the two holes as well for the face of the shoulder to place some sort of hinge.
Toying with different type of tubing ideas.

Thinks I need to source/figure out
Metal brakes at front of the chair
There is a metal apparatus on the front of the "chair". Any idea what it is, I'm about to try and design it in CAD but if anyone knows what it is, it would be most helpful. Tubing
Easy enough it looks to be typical foam tubing and plastic electrical cord protector. The actual chair
Seems to be made in the same fashion as the neck rings of the Supreamn Dalek with Herronrib inside. so again should not be too hard once I figure out the dimensions and easy assembly/disaemble for transport. That it for today

Took a big jump today - selling off the big 3d printer because I can't make it work, and ordering a monstrously expensive (but simpler to operate) one instead. Print size a little smaller, but big enough to print some new dalek parts...

Slow progress is being made still due to the weather conditions. Skirt and shoulders main structure now complete, neck rings also done. Now trying to 3d print the dome but not quite going to plan. I have downloaded files from the site but none of them appear to want to stick to my print bed. slats are printing with no trouble but dome will not so it may be a case of another way of making a dome.
