James's Bronze Dalek

Been meaning to do a showcase for this one for awhile, like my Power Dalek it wasn't built by me but by the talented Steve Allen.

From the start I wanted it to be a good close approximation to the original Parting of the Ways batch of props, rather than the current clean ones used on the series.

Its always been my favourite, mainly down to nostalgia now as this was where I began my journey with the show back in late 2005 with the first scene being when the three Daleks gun down Jack in the corridor.

I can take one minor bit of credit for this, I decided to make a custom ID tag to use on this drone to make it have its own unique marker compared to other props, even going as far to sneakily include J in it.

The final design was more or less a merger of MT1's tag in Dalek and Doomsday, pictured centred here.

And finally, here is the finished Dalek.

A friend of mine managed to mock up this poster, which I'd had on my wall for several years and utterly adored, rather felt like coming full circle!

Here it is alongside my Power Dalek, also built by Steve:

Took awhile, but that's finally that's my favourite Dalek off the bucket list!

Both look gorgeous! Makes me wish I had access to those prop-derived parts like Steve does, his work with them is phenomenal.

Wow!! Looks stunning.  I'm so jealous of the paint, the weathering is sublime.  I'm going to have to do something about mine now....it looks too clean 🤣

@Mr Sheen Its the first one he's actually ever done weathering on too! its an intrinsic part of the whole design for me and really ties it together imo.

Actually, in reply to Exterminator's comment above, the only prop-derived part on this one is the skirt, and that's only because Mike Tucker and his team used a skirt built by myself and Dave Brian in their MT1 build. So, Stu Currie made the original plugs for the shoulders, the fender and the eyeball, Dave Brian did the dome and cowl, Andrew Brian did the light cages and I did the skirt and the slats! A real team effort. And I did all the mouldmaking.

And yes, this one looked fantastic with the weathering!

Imperial dome?

Yes, I think it’s derived from that, but the added indents mean a new mould I’d assume

I explain how the Imperial dome led to the NSD dome on my Necros 2 thread, if you care to refer to that :)

There's photos in a sci-fi and fantasy modeller of Mike with the dome I think. But they did use the original 80's imp dome according to JK.

So is the original made with rubber D shaped stips and plain polystyrene plasticard? I thought the channel on the original looked more angular.
