The 16 yr old and I are building a ride-in Dalek. It's a scrap build, meaning anything we find around the house or at the thrift stores is fair game. Going for that Steam Punk, Dalek got lost in a junkyard and did its best kind of look.

Have been away to long, with being locked down due to the Pandemic I've had time to start working on my Dalek again. Was not happy with the Dome but don't have any experience with Fiber class so decided to try my luck at 3D prinitng the Dome in pieces. This is the prototype now that I have a bigger printer and have learned how to slice the pieces I will take the Dome Audrey2 designed on Thingiverse scale it up to the size I need and go from there.

Well that was one monster of a project... a lot more work than I bargained for, but he's very nearly finished. I need to neaten up the rig a little and optimise the textures and then I'll put him up for download.  Seems like everything that could go wrong went wrong and on top of that I am gradually haemorrhaging hard disk space so everything got progressively slower as time went on... Still, I'm very happy with the result in the end! High res   I also recorded a timelapse of the entire project for my YouTube channel and in total the work time (give or take a couple of hours) is around 30 hours over the last two weeks!

Thank Billy this clip took 9 hours to render because it had global illumination and ambient occlusion on as i wanted to see how long it would take, the same clip without those settings took 40 minutes

@Sandy Pownall I've fixed the images in your earlier post, (and therefore removed the replacements).

My name is Andy and Im going to be attempting to build a 2005 dalek which will be a RC hopefully. As i cannot do small spaces and get panick attacks i have gone for the remote control route.  Living in NZ does have some problems with the build in sizes of materials  and getting some parts. I started the build a few months ago before joining this forum and made many mistakes with a mixture of designs not knowing what i have learn here from many great builders.   My woodworking skills are not so good but hopefully will manage with lots of filler 🤣.  To power the dalek I have got a redundent robot war robot up and running which had been on my work bench for 4 years. The base of this was perfect for the dalek base to sit on.  I have reprogrammed the drives to a slower pace and not so fast on the acceleration as it was very quick. Im not sure how all the other controls will work as yet but will sort that out at a later date.    I have read and learnt so much from all the great build on here and if mine ends up 50% as good I will be happy. One thing I have learnt on here is that there are many talented and clever dalek builders here. With lockdown I have had a good start but with many failed attempts at first, bad measuring on my part 😪😪😄. This was my first skirt base attempt in aluminium which i abandoned  later.  Second attempt of skirt and its much better. Forgive my wood working skills they are not so good. Measured and cut the sections out of 4.5mm mdf. Lower and upper skirt above is plywood 12mm.  Sections all in place and no drama so we are on a role. There are more ribs in the skirt not just 3 as in the picture for strength. I will add a few more pict of the base in a few days.

Wow, these are absolutely gorgeous! What a stunning trio. I may even go as far to say these are some of the best models I've ever seen. Beautiful work! You really nailed the colours from the episodes!
