Only reservation I have JK is with the light fittings. I think they would have been something like 3mm clear acrylic for the first film with the lenses friction fitted onto them. But absolutely amazing work, still!

Hi, and welcome. I've converted your Status post into a Hello post (in the Hello section).   This'll give members more chance of noticing you and saying 'hi'.

December...   I'm sticking with what I know, so although we don't know exactly how the dummy domes were mounted originally, we do know how Shawcraft generally did things - so I put a dome ring into the dome. I also recut the eye slot, drilled the dome light holes, and preppared the pivot supports. Also, I fit the dome light electrics, pretty much exactly the same fixtures as I'd done for my movie Dalek builds.   I got wooden dowels and reconstructed the missing sections of the neck rods. Interestingly, while the rear two rods were around 8mm, the front rod of the 'trefoil' was narrower, around 6mm. I wonder if these were thinned down to aid mould release? Anyway, I put the dowel onto the belt sander and thinned it down before glueing in position. These would subsequently have filler put all over them, to match the structural features of the original parts.   For the shoulders, Milliput was again my preferred choice of filler, easily shaped and scupted with water, this no remedial sanding required. Several tricky sections had to be rebuilt, like the faux-collar-bands, which had been quite badly chipped or fractured.   The neck rings were in such a terrible state, that I elected to go with P38 there as the best filler option. I realised that, as long as it hadn't set too hard, I could actually use acetone to smooth down the P38 in much the same was as I used water with Milliput. Again, this kept post-cure sanding down to a minimum. It took several passes to get the most badly damaged sections built back up. Like the top of the skirt, there were several sections where there was simply no reinforcement behind the gelcoat, leaving the surface easily damaged - huge chunks were missing that had to be re-instated.   The lower edge of the shoulders had been badly chipped away at points, and I wanted to get it into a better state. I affixed plasticard around the lower edge of the shoulders, then used Fibral paste to fill the gaps - quite roughly, as I'd trim the excess off later on. Once the Fibral had set, I reinforice with a layer of fibreglass.   As we approached Christmas, and a time where I'd need to down-tools for a week, I did manage to get a first few coats of high build primer onto the dome and neck sections!

Over the past couple of days, I have given all the hemis a second coat of gloss black, and also masked off and painted the shoulders (not removing the masking paper between slats and collar yet as the lacquer is still too soft...).   Brush painted the eyeball too.... the lovely warm weather firms up the paint nice and quickly!   So close... putting it all together over the weekend!   Between @iansrobinson, @Nickm, myself (and others!), I'd say that 2024 has been a pretty good year for Pertwee-era Daleks!
