About This File

This is my version of the 3d printable 2005 Dalek eyeball. The thing that makes this different is the screw function allowing the front of the eye and the back to screw together. This is in case something goes wrong with the wiring and the light stops working. Just thought it would make things easier for everyone. Enjoy

Printed on a reality CR-10s using Simplify3D for slicing / prep. Nice clean print without a need to re-orientate the parts. I split up the two parts using Meshmixer as I prefer printing one at a time (less filament lost if something goes wrong).

Took a little time sanding the screw thread to get it working properly but that's to be expected as my printer does give occasional artifacts. Once clear the parts screw together neatly and the whole thing looks really good. Parts are hollow so plenty of room for lights and a quite large FPV camera. Being able to  unscrew the front of the eye is much better than my old Plastruct version which used magnets and promptly fell off if anything hit it. I personally like the 3D print banding effect so printed it in black and intend to use as is.  Would not be hard to smooth using resin such as XTC-3D or my preference of primer/filler spray such as Rustoleum 2 in 1.

I'd certainly recommend this one unreservedly, congrats and many thanks to Slythenperior.

Thank you again for your NSD eye !  The result is perfect (with a prussia and a replicator2 ) and it is very simple to unscrew the two parts of the eye.

I printed this with a FolgerTech FT-5 3D printer, using Simplify3D with support material. I was able to screw in the print as soon as the support material was cleaned up. I do need to clean up the mating seam on the front section but both pieces presented no print flaws on the outside that a stack of sandpaper and some elbow grease won't clean up. (small spots related to printer head movement, nothing I didn't expect)

I still have to sand and paint it but it's a very good feeling to hold such a recognizable piece.

Thank you very much for making it.
