Dalek Two Zero
I find an Endoscope with Screen invaluable for covering my blind spots.· 0 replies
I have been paying £12-£20 for these - now just £7 on Amazon!
The combined screen and endoscope means no connection issues.
Charges on USB C so can be plugged into a powerbrick while in use.
My bigger/costlier ones white out in bright sunlight or become useless in dark interiors.
These cheap and cheerful models seem unaffected by either of those extreme light conditions so I'll order another one for Two Zero's back up cam.
I've left the originals in too, which work in normal daylight and interior light.

Had a great 3 days for Sci-Fi Scarborough, covered several miles up and down the seafront plus a lot of patrolling the venue, finished every day on 100% battery power!· 0 replies
Several issues need to be resolved though;
1 - a bit of front bumper support fell off as I loaded
2 - hatch corners are disintegrating
3 - better positioning of screens inside
4 - increased interior storage
5 - make a larger headset for the new mic
6 - improve layout of cockpit for powerbricks & iris control
For a Dalek built in 2020 that has carried out 49 missions, most of those over 8 hours, many 2 days and often outside, it's not doing badly!

Started the CAD work to make a mini-Dalek for Dalek Racing, Dalek Laser Tag, and maybe a Cooperative Game where Dalek teams had to get Plutonium spheres into a reactor at a set amount of time with an electromagnet in the plunger for entertaining and teaching Arduino and electronics and 3D printing (and by extension Prop Building!) to the masses at local Maker Faires.· 0 replies
After weeks of learning new tricks in CAD, A friend found a complete Dalek CAD model on Thingiverse.
I feel... sad.

Eye Pivot Mounting I redesigned how I mounted the eye to the dome. Originally I had two bolts come in from either side, but I was not happy with how loose the eye was and the wiggle it had when being operated. I modified a carriage bolt to be a stud, then threaded it in through the pivot and pivot brackets on the inside of the dome. I used two small locking washers and locking nuts on either end. This system allowed me to fine tune how stiff I wanted the eye while guaranteeing it won’t loosen up during use. The positive about this design is that it is sturdy, easy to adjust the eye tighter or looser. It is also compact and has a very clean appearance. The only negative is that it is essentially permanent. Due to the angle of the dome, the stud cannot slide out, I had to use a 90° screw driver to remove the inner eye pivot brackets, then assemble it all in the center of the dome and slide it back into place to reattach. So in basic terms; no easy removal of the eye. For me, this is not a problem, but something to keep in mind if you go this route in your build. -

So finally some time (weather has been brilliant for weeks). Set up the workbench and fixed a piece of 18mm OSB that I had practiced on last time, to get an idea of how to setup the router for cutting circles. I had drilled a 6mm hole through the OSB for a 6mm roofing bolt, this will act as the pivot point for the router. The circle guide for the router is fitted to the router and the other end of the guide is fixed to the OSB which is clamped to the workbench. Then I selected a straight cutting tool and fitted it to the router. Then its a question of setting the circle guide so that the bit cuts in the correct position, this is tricky with an extractor attachment fitted. Lastly I connected up the hoover, I want to extract as much of this diust as possible, even though I'm doing it outside. as its nasty stuff MDF. Even had to ban the dog to the garden. Sorry no pics of the cutting process, but here the first disc with it's outer dimension cut. When working with the router its best to cut small depths at a time and avoid the bit overheating. Once I had cut the first outer dimension, I swapped the bit to cut the 45 degree chamfer on the outer edge. My measurements seemed to be a bit off, lining the bit up on the markings it seemed that it would be fine, but when cutting it came up a bit short - hey ho. Once I got the hang of it, it was plain sailing On one of the discs, I appear to have marked a bit close to the edge, so when the circle was cut out, this edge did not get touched with the router. A bit of sanding will blend that in. Next job was to cut the inner circles. For this I selected a thinner bit. Again, once set up it was pretty quick. I cut the circles out in about 3mm at a time. And voila, all done. Next I need to cut the uprights. Earlier in the week, at the after school club, we discussed the many failings that I have had trying to get a Gun Box made up. However I explained that, with some help on here and FB Dalek Builders Group, I have managed to draw a plan to work from. So at club night I managed to get the children to mark and cut out the upper and lower Gun Box pieces. -

Welcome to the forum! It is great that you have a building buddy. Four hands and two heads are frequently a good thing. As Meme says, the best way to learn is to read and learn from what others have done. If you have a question, check to see if it has already been asked in the Frequently Asked Questions section or in Adam's NSD index . I look forward to seeing your build diary(diaries) appear. Have fun! Kathy
