Hi Everyone 😲 cant believe how long I haven't been on here  , time flies . I still have my Dalek 😀 and he's been showed off at my local school quite a few times, I did have him moving at some point but the wheelchair batteries died and I've not got around to replacing them, On the plus side he talks 😁 , I manged to buy a small ring modulator and all I needed to do was download a program to create a wave and download it onto my phone then hook up the phone, portable amp and microphone to the modulator and yay I had a pretty decent Dalek voice . Anyway I've noticed they have major updated all the plans , so I might redownload them and do so alterations.
Glad to see this forum is still running 😀

It's about time that I may have someone to talk with. Oscillator speed is the most important feature  Sine wave verses square wave. Who care's. It's the adjustable speed of the oscillator.
    • gazzer23
So in the case of a Voice Modulator, the LFO is the sinewave that is used to modulate the voice ? Which by default is 24.5 Hz I believe.   For me the reason I switched to rotary encoder from potentiometer is because on the ESP32 the ADC fluctuates a lot with the same signal so even though it is a 12 bit ADC I have to drop the resolution quite a bit to get it stable. Where as with a rotary encoder you get a digital signal generated which is easier for the processor to deal with and it also gives you the direction of the knob being turned. Whereas with a potentiometer you have limits on its turning although you can get one that do multiple turns. With a rotary encode it can rotate 360 degrees as many times as you like and the limits are done in software. The only problem with rotary encoders is they send 2 digital signals so you need to use 2 pins on the processor instead of 1 like you do with a potentiometer.

The LFO is the standard term for a low frequency oscillator. Kevin would much to like to call it a ultra low speed oscillator. But it may not be accepted by other people. 555 timer IC's are rated from 1 Hertz to 100,000 Hertz. So the speed we want is the ultra low speed range. Rotary encoders are still beyond my ability. I would like to know what they are.  I just don't understand there purpose
