Shawcraft Mk3 Dalek Plans 3.4.1

About This File

The Mk3 Dalek design was originally covered in the 'Shawcraft Mk1, 2 &3' plans booklet (now obsolete).

The plans have now been split into three separate booklets for the Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 Daleks. This download is the booklet for the Mk3 version.

This split helps to present the variations in a more detailed and logical manner. A great deal of new information has come to light over the last few years, some of it measured directly from original props, some derived by painstaking use of CG modelling and some coming from rare high resolution images. Until now, much of this new data has remained unpublished or has only been available scattered across numerous discussions on the Project Dalek Forum. All this information has been gathered together for the first time and used to create this new set of plans, which represent a significant advance in classic Dalek accuracy.

If you intend to use these plans to build a Dalek, please post a Build Diary of your progress on the Forum.

These plans are also available to buy as a full colour printed booklet. Click here for details.

I like the design and I am making a list of materials and hope to get everything set up soon.

what are the angles for the MK1 skirt planels.

You don't need the angles, just draw out the panels using the measurements provided and the angles take care of themselves.

Might be missing something, but it looks like the measurement from the centre line to the outside of the base skirt is shown as both 377 and 385mm at the front and back. Is one including the thickness of the side panels?

Cheers

@Jack Upton Both numbers are correct... the sides do not run parallel. It isn't all that obvious on the small plans drawing (or on the full size prop), but it's there.

Ohhh I see my mistake! Thank you so much John, you've just saved me from a week of thinking I'm going crazy or can't figure out basic angles. Thankfully I'm making a 1:4 scale mock up first with some construction card (just to make sure I know what I'm doing before wasting money on materials) and I've spent days trying to jiggle the skirt panels together and not being able to figure out why the gap between panels 3 and 5 wasn't quite the right shape for the triangular number 4 panel. I suppose the discrepancy will be caused by me assuming that they were parallel and cutting the mounting for the skirt base incorrectly
