About This File
In restoring the Dalek I am working on I found it a bit tricky to mark out the hole centres for drilling the holes for the neck strut trefoil dowels to be inserted in to. I have access to a Laser Cutter through my local hackspace and used it to laser cut a small marking template in to a piece of PET plastic packaging.
The template seemed to work quite well and I hope others might find it useful. I realise not everyone has access to a laser cutter and, if you do, the software for it my require different file formats to import it.
I have included 4 files for making the templates with. 3 for laser cutting and one for 3d printing:
Laser Cutting:
- Dalek_Neck_Trefoil_Strut_Marking_Template_Lasercut.ai
- Dalek_Neck_Trefoil_Strut_Marking_Template_Lasercut.svg
- Dalek_Neck_Trefoil_Strut_Marking_Template_Lasercut.dxf
3D Printing:
- Dalek_Neck_Trefoil_Strut_Marking_Template_3d_print.stl
Materials:
- For laser cutting I recommend finding a piece of flat PET packaging that is thicker than plastic bottles tend to be and also flat (which is essential)
- For 3D printing PLA works fine.
If you are Laser Cutting then the horizontal and vertical lines need to be etched / scribed and everything else should be cut out.
